2023 Broadway Series: Anthony Murphy in Concert
Cape May Stage presents Broadway performer and cabaret singer Anthony Murphy on Monday, July 31, as part of our 2023 Broadway Series.

Anthony Murphy was born to be on the stage! Whether that is the Broadway Stage portraying the iconic Disney character Aladin, or in an intimate club sharing his musical journey as a cabaret show, Murphy delivers. With his high-energy cabaret show filled with hand-picked songs and joyful stories from his life, Murphy combines his talent, personality, heart, and creativity into a unique and entertaining style that resonates with audience members of all ages.

"The singing actor brought his entire being to the show, rolled it up into an enormous ball of joyful energy, outrageous personality, and prodigious musical talent, and hurled it at the audience."

Concert Time: 60-70 minutes, no intermission

Biography:

Anthony Murphy is a singer, actor, director and choreographer who has graced international stages beginning at age of 18 when he performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Anthony studied Directing & Choreography at Otterbein University. While there he trained vocally under world renown Opera Tenor Brian Cheney.

He later went on to perform regionally around the U.S. and Off-Broadway. In 2017 he originated the role of the Genie in the Broadway U.S. National Tour of Disney’s Aladdin the Musical. Later he moved to the Australian company of Aladdin. While in Australia he premiered his sold-out solo cabaret Introducing: Anthony Murphy at the Doo Bop Jazz Bar in Brisbane, AUS.

Anthony has worked as a vocal coach while performing for the past 6 years. This year he opened his own vocal and performing coaching studio, The Work Studio. He has worked with many Professional Artists including current clients on Broadway and in Broadway National Tours.

Accolades:

“With more personality than a Peter Pan bus transporting drag queens to a gig, more personal fashion style than a F.I.T. freshman, and more voice than an entire church choir, Anthony Murphy did himself and his family (Dad, in the house, Mom watching via live stream) more than proud.”
– Stephen Mosher, BroadwayWorld.com

“As the all-important Genie, Murphy, a sort of African-American doppelganger of the great Zero Mostel, is a most buoyant dancer, and brings a jazzy Cab Calloway style blended with hipster/drama queen twist to the proceedings.”
- Hedy Weiss, Chicago Sun*Times
